Mr. Silver is one of the country’s leading cleantech investors and advisors. He currently chairs the Global Climate Council at Apollo Global Management, helping guide up to $100 billion in sustainability-related transactions. Earlier, he was a Senior Advisor at Guggenheim Partners, a global investment and advisory services firm, working with clean economy clients, and Managing Partner of Tax Equity Advisors, an investor in solar power. Mr. Silver is on the board of National Grid, a Global Fortune 500 energy company. He also serves on private cleantech boards. Mr. Silver led the U.S. government’s $40 billion clean energy investment fund and its $20 billion automotive technology fund during the Obama Administration, providing financing for solar, wind, geothermal, biofuels, fossil, nuclear and advanced automotive technology projects. Silver was Chief Operating Officer of Tiger Management, one of the country’s largest hedge funds, and founded venture capital firm Core Capital Partners. He began his career at McKinsey and Company. He has served as a senior official in three U.S. Cabinets: Energy, Commerce and Interior and as an advisor to the Secretary of the Treasury. He is on the board of Resources for the Future and previously served as Chairman of the board of American Forests. An honors graduate of Harvard University, Mr. Silver did graduate work at the Institute of Political Studies in Paris and the Graduate Institute of International Studies in Geneva while on Fulbright and Rotary Graduate Fellowships.

    Although billions of dollars are being invested in new technologies, global GHG emissions continue to increase because growth in emissions from developing countries still exceeds the decline in emissions from OECD countries. The importance and need of technologies—existing as well as those on the horizon—is highlighted in every energy transition conversation. Wind, solar PV and batteries have made significant improvements in performance and cost over the last two decades. However, hydrocarbons still account for 80% of primary energy supply—just as was the case 30 years back. What are the most promising technological breakthroughs in climate change mitigation? What has been the impact of IRA and IIJA so far? What are the biggest barriers to scale-up? How is Gen AI transforming energy industry?
