Kris Smith is EVP and Chief Financial Officer, responsible for all financial functions, internal audit, investor relations, information technology and supply chain. Kris is also the company’s executive lead on the Pathways Alliance. Since joining Suncor in 2000, Kris has held a variety of operational and corporate roles, including the role of Interim President and Chief Executive Officer. Prior to being appointed Interim President and Chief Executive Officer, Kris has held several senior leadership roles in the organization including Executive Vice President of Downstream from 2013 to 2022. In that role he was responsible for all of the company’s refining and marketing assets in Canada and the United States, Suncor’s supply and trading and renewable energy businesses and corporate strategy. Prior to that he held roles in Fort McMurray as part of the oil sands leadership team, managing business planning, production planning and logistics, and power and utility operations. Kris graduated from the University of Alberta in 1992 and received his bachelor of laws from Dalhousie University in 1995. Kris has also completed the advanced management program at Harvard Business School.
