Principal Research Analyst

Drew Bobesink, Principal Research Analyst for the North American Power and Renewables team at S&P Global Commodity Insights, focuses on the development and operation of power modeling software. He conducts power modeling simulations to develop long-term power sector outlooks, with experience in both dispatch and long-term capacity expansion modeling. Mr. Bobesink also leads the research and forecasting efforts around capacity markets and reliability planning in North America. He has conducted research on numerous aspects of the electric sector, such as economic retirements of coal plants, the increasing importance of hourly price profiles in the electricity market, and the effect of increasing renewable and battery penetrations. In addition to his work in North America, Mr. Bobesink has analyzed power systems in Africa and the Middle East, including Rwanda and Oman. Prior to working at S&P Global, Mr. Bobesink consulted with the World Bank, focusing on renewable energy in Senegal. His previous academic research experience includes quantifying the importance of considering future uncertainty in power simulations for both risk-neutral and risk-averse decision makers. Mr. Bobesink is educated in engineering and computer science and holds a BS and an MS from Johns Hopkins University.
