Bernard Haykel

Professor of Near Eastern Studies

Bernard Haykel is a scholar of the Arabian Peninsula, focusing on the politics, economics, and history of the Gulf Cooperation Countries (GCC) and Yemen. He is professor of Near Eastern Studies at Princeton University where he led the Project on Oil, Energy and the Middle East, a topic he also teaches. Professor Haykel is presently completing a book on the modern politics of Saudi Arabia, with a focus on Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman and his projects to transform the country. He has received several prominent awards, such as the Prize Fellowship at Magdalen College, Oxford, the Carnegie Corporation and Guggenheim fellowships and the Old Dominion Professorship at Princeton. He appears frequently in print and broadcast media and maintains contact with the political, energy industry and private sector leaders in the Gulf. He earned his doctorate from the University of Oxford.
