Yushan Yan

Versogen

Founder & Chief Executive Officer

Yushan Yan is the Founder and CEO of Versogen, a University of Delaware spin out that manufactures high quality anion exchange membranes (AEMs) at GW scale and develops MW-scale AEM electrolyzer stacks for green hydrogen generation. AEM electrolyzers combine the high, dynamic performance of the proton exchange membrane electrolyzers with the low cost of liquid alkaline electrolyzers and thus are positioned to be the technology of choice for low-cost green hydrogen production. Yan is also the Henry B. du Pont Professor of Chemical Engineering and the Founding Director of Center for Clean Hydrogen (CCH), a partnership of the University of Delaware, Chemours, Plug Power, and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. The mission of CCH is to help to accelerate the deep decarbonization by lowering the cost of clean hydrogen by developing better materials, stack designs, and manufacturing methods and by testing electrolyzer stacks and components at scale i.e., MW scale. Yan has worked on green hydrogen for 25+ years, with the last 15+ years solely focused on AEM. He is a Web of Science Highly Cited Researcher and an elected member of the National Academy of Engineering for his contributions to electrochemical engineering, catalysis, and materials. Yan received his BS in chemical physics from the University of Science and Technology of China and his PhD in chemical engineering from the California Institute of Technology.
