Jonah Susskind

Director of Research

Jonah Susskind is Director of Research at MIT’s P-REX Lab, where his work focuses on mobility, land use, and the future of American suburbs. He is also Senior Research Associate at SWA Group—an international landscape architecture, urban design, and planning firm, where he co-directs the company’s research and innovation platform, XL Lab. Susskind has held research and teaching appointments at MIT and the Harvard Graduate School of Design. His research has been published in books and journals including the Harvard Design Magazine, Designing With Nature Now (Lincoln Institute of Land Policy), and Wood Urbanism: From The Molecular to the Territorial (Actar). Susskind is a co-author of a forthcoming book about the adaptation of transportation infrastructure for parks and public open spaces.

    As urbanization increases around the world, the share of emissions from cities will also increase. What are the tools and techniques cities are using to reduce emissions? Buildings are becoming “greener,” but it doesn’t end with the skyscraper. New visions in how cities are using their land, adding greenspace and interconnecting forms of mobility also play a vital part in a cities decarbonization efforts, resulting in a multi-pronged approach.
