Heather Jones

S&P Global Commodity Insights

Head of Emissions Technical, Center of Emissions Excellence

Heather leads a team of greenhouse gas experts that work across divisions within S&P Global Commodity Insights to provide guidance and expertise related to greenhouse gases.  Much of the team’s work is focused on evaluating different assets and commodities on a life-cycle GHG intensity or supply chain carbon intensity basis.  This work feeds into carbon accounted pricing assessments and other standalone products within S&P Global Commodity Insights.   Heather’s career interests involve standardization of emission quantification of supply chains, decarbonization opportunities and evaluating polices for effectiveness of climate goals. Heather has had an extensive career ranging from deep expertise in greenhouse gas emissions and air quality to broader knowledge in a range of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) metrics.  Heather has done extensive consulting work in the past while owning her own consulting firm for over 15 years with clients ranging from small to major oil and gas operators to hydrogen producers to oil and gas associations. Heather also has extensive experience related to certified natural gas based upon a broad spectrum of ESG metrics.  Heather holds a master’s of applied science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of British Columbia and is an actively registered professional engineer with APEGA.

Sessions With Heather Jones

Monday, 18 March

  • 03:00pm - 03:30pm (CST) / 18/mar/2024 08:00 pm - 18/mar/2024 08:30 pm

Making Sense of Methane Measurements with Advanced Analytics

    Carbon Management/Decarbonization

Advanced analytical techniques are important to make an integrated interpretation of methane emissions data sensors with different spatial and temporal characteristics (satellites, airborne, continuous monitoring cameras, etc.). What is the state of such integrative solutions, and how can results assist the reporting of methane emissions to regulatory authorities?

Tuesday, 19 March

  • 09:30am - 10:00am (CST) / 19/mar/2024 02:30 pm - 19/mar/2024 03:00 pm

Certified Natural Gas: An incentive for decarbonizing oil & gas?

    Carbon Management/Decarbonization

Certification of natural gas production is increasingly prominent as a means for both gas producers and buyers to prove their ESG credentials, and to differentiate gas traded in international markets. What standards are developing to enable data transparency and certification of produced gas? What is the outlook for regulations to mandate such certifications? How important is certification in practice for gas buyers across different regional markets?

Wednesday, 20 March

  • 01:30pm - 02:15pm (CST) / 20/mar/2024 06:30 pm - 20/mar/2024 07:15 pm

S&P Global | Differentiating Natural Gas Based Upon Carbon Intensity

S&P Global Commodity Insights will give an overview of ground-breaking analysis into the carbon intensity of North American natural gas supply chains using detailed emissions models, including methane detection from satellites. They will discuss how differentiated supply chains, including certified natural gas, could be compared to S&P Global benchmarking to help demonstrate lower-carbon pathways and emissions reductions.
