Global Team Leader Biofuels Analytics

Christoph Berg is Global Lead for Biofuels at S&P Global. He graduated in Economics from Heidelberg University in 1989 and afterwards was Research Fellow at Victoria University, Manchester, UK. In 1993 he was awarded a Ph.D. in Economics from the Technical University of Berlin. In 1994 he joined F.O. Licht where he became managing director in 2007. Between 2015 and 2022 he headed the soft commodities and renewable fuels at Agribusiness Intelligence. He is the editor-in-chief of newsletters and reports on ethanol and biofuels, molasses and feed ingredients. Dr Berg has initiated F.O. Licht's series of World Ethanol and Biofuel conferences in Europe, Brazil, Latin America, Africa and Asia.

    Scaling Agricultural Waste and Biomass to Fuel Businesses

    Waste-to-fuel solutions, such as using agricultural and other biomass waste to generate renewable natural gas, offer great potential to reduce the carbon footprint in the agriculture sector and reduce methane emissions. However, these solutions globally would require plants to be dispersed across many locations, often at small scale. What learnings from waste-to-energy projects to date inform a roadmap to scaling these solutions? What are the business drivers that make these solutions attractive and widely scalable?
