Chief Strategy, Sustainability and Legal Officer

Mónica is an experienced attorney in Corporate and international law in Colombia and Canada. She has worked extensively in Corporate matters, international commercial and investment arbitration. After living for more than 15 years in Vancouver and working in various Canadian law firms, she returned to Colombia in 2016. She was Vice President of Corporate Affairs and Secretary General of Ecopetrol S.A. Since August 2022, Mónica is the Chief Strategy, Sustainability and Legal Officer at GeoPark. In this role she leads the definition and implementation of corporate strategy, directs and promotes performance in company aspects such as Sustainability, Environment, Social and Governance and leads legal matters of GeoPark’s Group of Companies.  Mónica holds a law degree from Universidad de Los Andes, a post-graduate degree in Civil Liability and Damages from Universidad Externado de Colombia and a Master of Science in Development Studies from the London School of Economics (LSE). She is a member of the Board of Directors of Grupo Bolívar, Mineros S.A. and Empresarios por la Educación, and member of the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC)

What alternative investment models could help ensure a “just” transition? Can international partnerships broaden from fossil fuels to include mineral resources for the energy transition or toward renewables?
