As we continue moving forward in transforming our energy systems, our electric power grids are squarely in focus. In this session, we will center the discussion on the important role of advanced transmission technologies in the clean energy transition.
Achieving aggressive decarbonization goals will require expanding global transmission grids by 2-3X over the next several decades. However, high-power transmission lines in new corridors are extremely challenging to permit, site and build. In this session, we’ll discuss the potential for high-temperature superconductors to be used to build transmission lines that carry 5-10X more power in the same right-of-way space, unlocking the ability to build more grid capacity faster and with less impact.
