Tancredi Botto

Muon Vision

Chief Executive Officer

Dr. Botto is a senior applied physicist and established leader in the development of physics-based technology platforms, with significant experience in multidisciplinary corporate and academic R&D. In 2019 he co-founded Muon Vision, a startup registered in Chile and US dedicated to providing the mining industry with unique X-ray powers to boost the efficiency, safety, and sustainability of the global supply chain for critical metals. Dr. Botto received his PhD in 1999 from the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, for research in fundamental electro-nuclear physics conducted at the Dutch National Institute for Nuclear and Particle Physics (NIKHEF) and then continued his academic research at the MIT/Bates Linear Accelerator Center. In 2005, Dr. Botto joined Schlumberger Technology Corporation, the recognized world leader for technology services in the Oil & Gas industry as a research scientist. There he led the development of several advanced electromagnetic and nuclear sensing technologies, including compact particle accelerators, a high-speed nuclear magnetic resonance logging tool, and the first-ever borehole tool for subsurface density mapping with cosmic-ray muons. While at SLB, Dr. Botto also led several sponsored research collaborations with Harvard and MIT on topics such as photonics, nanofabrication, and high-temperature power electronics. Since 2018, Dr. Botto has also been retained as a consultant and R&D expert by companies in the US, Europe, and South America on a variety of topics in the oil & gas and mining sectors, medical devices and nuclear fusion.

Muon Vision | Out of this World X-ray Powers for a Safer and More Efficient Processing of Critical Minerals

Filling the growing supply gap for critical metals will require significant advances in the processing of low-grade ores from new and existing stockpiles. In this talk, we will present how Muon Vision’s deeply penetrating subsurface visualization technology holds promise for boosting the efficiency of the leaching process, which today already accounts for 20% of worldwide copper, and for transforming the sustainability and safety of other critical mining practices.
