Sasha Mackler

Executive Director, Energy Program

Sasha Mackler is the Executive Director of the Energy Program at the Bipartisan Policy Center. Sasha works closely with political leaders, policy experts, corporations, and investors to navigate and shape the energy transition. He has worked for more than two decades at the intersection of energy policy and commercial markets. Prior to leading BPC’s Energy Program, he spent nearly 10 years in the private sector, first as vice president of Summit Power Group’s carbon capture business and then overseeing market development activities for Enviva, the largest biomass fuel supplier to the global utility industry. Earlier in his career he was Research Director for the National Commission on Energy Policy, served in the Clean Air Markets Division of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and was a global fellow at the international engineering firm Arup in London. In March 2023, Mackler was appointed to the White House Council on Environmental Quality’s Task Force to inform responsible development of Carbon Dioxide Capture, Utilization, and Sequestration on Federal Lands and the Outer Continental Shelf. Mackler serves on the Executive Committee of the Conservative Climate Foundation. He has testified as an expert witness on energy and climate issues in the both the United States Senate and the United States House of Representatives. He is a frequently sought out speaker on energy and climate matters and a regular source of commentary in the media. Mackler holds both a Master of Science in Earth Resources Engineering and Master of Public Administration from Columbia University. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Geomechanical Engineering with high distinction and Tau Beta Pi from the University of Rochester.
