Chief Executive Officer

Josh is co-founder, formerly CTO, and currently interim Chief Executive Officer at M2X Energy. M2X is a venture backed start-up, founded by Breakthrough Energy Ventures. M2X is commercializing a novel gas-to-liquids system to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions from methane flaring and venting. Previously, Josh was a founder at Rho AI, a data science company, where he led business operations. Rho AI was acquired by General Motors in 2021. 

Josh received an MA in Climate & Society and PhD in Earth & Environmental Engineering from Columbia University, and a BS in Mechanical Engineering & Engineering Public Policy from Carnegie Mellon University. Josh’s PhD research was funded by ARPA-E and served as the basis for M2X Energy’s technology. Josh is also an adjunct professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Columbia and serves as the faculty advisor to the University’s Formula SAE team. 

Previously, Josh spent 15 years as a mechanical engineer in professional motorsports, where he held a range of engineering positions, culminating in a role as Crew Chief in NASCAR’s top series.

    M2X Energy | Innovation in Action: Moving from Stranded Methane to Low-Carbon Methanol

    Founded in 2020 by Breakthrough Energy Ventures, M2X Energy Inc., is focused on stranded gas conversion into low-carbon chemicals whose mission is to address flaring and venting by creating valuable products from otherwise wasted gas and producing low-carbon chemicals such as methanol. Louise Hannecart (Director of Business Development) and Josh Browne (CTO) will speak about M2X’s journey from an innovative idea to a commercial product.
