​​​​​Eric Chaves is the founder and CEO of Terrament, a startup building long-duration energy storage using gravity batteries deployed deep underground. Eric is an entrepreneur and technologist with a background spanning architecture, industrial design, and software. He is a founder fellow at Newlab, and a member of the CEBIP accelerator at Stony Brook University.

    Pumped hydro is our power grid’s dominant, cheapest form of energy storage, but water and mountains are constrained resources. This presentation is a review of the latest gravity storage research and a showcase of new designs promising to push “mgh” energy to new heights (a mile underground!) to unlock pumped hydro scales of power and duration.
