Clean, dispatchable resources are needed to firm a grid dominated by variable renewable generation. Hydrogen produced from carbon-free electricity and run back through a gas turbine could potentially play this role. What are the technical challenges associated with using hydrogen as a fuel for power generation? How do the economics of hydrogen compare to alternative solutions?
Hydrogen transport will have the advantage of access to existing the gas network – repurposing and new build will both be critical. What is required to convert the traditional gas network to transport hydrogen? How much blending of hydrogen into the gas network can be achieved today?
Hydrogen can move a gas, a liquid, or in a hydrogen carrier like ammonia or methanol. While the falling costs of hydrogen production have captured the world’s attention, transporting it from production site to the point of use can be most of the story. What are the “go-to-market” strategies for hydrogen?
