The pledges have been announced. Virtually all the world's major economies have committed to reaching net-zero emissions by 2050 or thereabouts. The challenge is stark: The current, sprawling energy system took more than a century to build; the aspiration is to overhaul it in 30 years. While there are many determinants of success, the most critical factor is capital investment, and the role of the financial industry in the reallocation of capital and climate risks across the energy investment space. In this panel, we will delve into the issues related to role, ability, and evolution of the global financial sector in the effort to deliver a sustainable energy system.
