The Honorable Christine Sagen Helgø, Mayor, Stavanger, Norway, has held the office since the regional election of October 2011 and was reelected in 2015. She represents the Conservative Party of Norway, Høyre. Ms. Helgø is Chair of the Board of Greater Stavanger Economic Development and the Port of Stavanger. In the 2014¬–16 term, she served as President of World Energy Cities Partnership (WECP), which is a network of 19 cities that are globally recognized as international energy capitals, among them Houston, Aberdeen, Rio de Janeiro, Kuala Lumpur, Doha, and Perth. Ms. Helgø follows the energy industry closely. As the energy capital of Norway, the Stavanger region was visibly affected by the fall in oil prices from 2014¬ to 2017. One policy to create strong economic growth has been to work systematically to widen the scope of the city’s economic footprint. Stavanger is known as a forward-thinking, smart city with an increasingly vibrant ecosystem for innovation and entrepreneurship. Ms. Helgø has also embraced her city’s diversity. Twenty-two percent of Stavanger’s inhabitants originate from outside of Norway and its populace includes 189 nationalities. Ms. Helgø holds a law degree from the University of Bergen.
