James Stevenson, Executive Director, leads the global research team for the Coal, Metals & Mining group. Dr. Stevenson’s expertise includes supply-demand dynamics of the international coal, iron ore, and ferrous scrap markets, price forecasting, transportation, and export logistics and infrastructure. Prior to joining IHS Markit, Dr. Stevenson spent five years in coal trading, most recently as Vice President, Coal Analysis, at Mercuria Energy Trading, Inc., and before that as Coal Strategist at Louis Dreyfus Highbridge Energy. Prior to that, he worked at Eraring Energy in the Australian utility industry. Dr. Stevenson holds undergraduate and master’s degrees from the University of Sydney in Australia, and a PhD from Yale University.

Import demand growth is slowing from the strong levels of recent years, with new challenges mounting. What impact will the coronavirus, and other factors, have on China’s roles in the global market?
