Alex has 20+ years active investing and trading experience in carbon markets, environmental commodities, and climate finance and is primarily responsible for trading and structured finance at ECP.  Alex previously founded Climate Wedge Ltd, an independent carbon trading and climate finance investment firm started with Cheyne Capital in 2005, where he advised & managed direct investments in carbon for multiple institutional funds. He also cofounded U.S. carbon credit developer EOS Climate (predecessor to Xpansiv), Ugandan clean cooking company Up Energy, and wrote and launched the original version of the Voluntary Carbon Standard (now Verra), the most widely adopted trading standard for non-Kyoto carbon assets. Alex previously helped start PricewaterhouseCoopers’s Climate Change Services team, and has advised a diverse range of clients from BP and Rio Tinto to McKinsey, 21st Century Fox, and California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) on corporate carbon management and investment strategies.  Alex has a Ph.D. in physics from Oxford University, B.A. from Cornell University, and is a CFA charterholder.
