Dr. Paul O'Callaghan is Founder and CEO of BlueTech Research, a leader for providing water technology market insights. Paul is thought leader in the sector advisor leading water solutions companies, investors, water utilities and corporations on the future of water. Paul completed his PhD on the Dynamics of Water Innovation at Wageningen University and is author of a forthcoming book based on this analysis of water innovation to be published next year by Elsevier. Paul was Executive Producer of the award-winning water documentary film Brave Blue World, that paints a more hopeful and optimistic picture of how pioneers are leading the way in solving global water challenges which featured a number of A list celebrities and launched globally on Netflix in 2020 to 200 million viewers worldwide. Paul's work focuses on how innovation can create value in solving global water challenges and clients rely on BlueTech to inform decision making to ensure efficient use of capital to solve global water challenges. In his spare time, Paul is a keen musician, ocean swimmer and is currently developing a water neutral home in his native Ireland.

    What Initiatives Is the Energy Sector Taking Toward Water Usage?

    Considering the dramatic increase in induced seismicity, what initiatives is the energy sector developing to recycle produced water? It is costly to attempt to recycle this waste stream with today’s technology, so most operators turn to disposal. Water injection is also becoming an issue as regulatory agencies are limiting permits and creating moratorium areas where no injection is allowed. We must have investment in new technology in order to recycle this waste. Where will the investment come from?
