Chief Executive Officer

Michl Binderbauer is Chief Executive Officer of TAE Technologies. Michl first joined TAE as Chief Technology Officer in 1998 and is a co-inventor of many of the company’s technological advances in fusion, power management, and particle accelerators. He was appointed CEO in 2018. TAE was founded to commercialize a unique approach to nuclear fusion energy that is safe, sustainable, non-radioactive, and capable of powering the planet for centuries. In pursuit of this goal, TAE developed proprietary technologies that have additional applications in adjacent markets such as energy storage, grid infrastructure, electric mobility, and fast charging. Together, these innovations form the backbone of an electrified clean energy ecosystem. Michl holds many U.S. and international technology patents, and has published papers in the world’s leading peer-reviewed journals, including Science, Physical Review Letters, Nature Communications, and more. He has been featured in Time, The New York Times, The New Yorker, Bloomberg, MIT Technology Review, and PBS NewsHour. Drawing upon previous experience in healthcare and infection control startups in both Europe and the United States, Michl led the launch of TAE’s first subsidiary, TAE Life Sciences. TAE Life Sciences leverages TAE’s patented accelerator beam technology for a promising cancer treatment that selectively targets tumor cells while sparing healthy tissue. Michl sits on the Board of Directors of TAE Life Sciences. Michl is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and the American Physical Society (APS). He was an inaugural inductee into UC Irvine’s School of Physical Sciences Hall of Fame and received the school’s prestigious Lauds & Laurels Award. In addition, Michl serves as Chairman of the Dean’s Leadership Council for the School of Physical Sciences and sits on the Board of UCI Beall Applied Innovation. Michl holds a Ph.D. in physics from UC Irvine, under the guidance of fusion energy pioneer, Norman Rostoker.
