Levi Tillemann is Vice President for Policy and International Outreach at Ample, Inc. and author of The Great Race: The Global Quest for the Car of the Future (Simon and Schuster 2015). Levi is a regular contributor to WIRED, the New Yorker and other publications. He is also a former member of the Obama administration Department of Energy, Senior advisor to Valence Strategic and joined Ample from the World Economic Forum where he was leading an initiative on decarbonizing manufacturing, use-phase and end of life emissions for the automobility ecosystem. Levi has a BA from Yale, and MA and Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. He speaks Chinese (Mandarin), Japanese, Spanish and Portuguese.

    Despite the prolific year-on-year growth of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in many major markets, charging infrastructure is still perceived as one of the major obstacles preventing more widespread consumer adoption. Over the coming years, considerable investments from various automotive and non-automotive stakeholders are expected, and IHS Markit’s Supply Chain & Technology charging team foresees a cumulative annual increase of more than 40% in charging station deployment during the next decade. What challenges must be addressed in deployment of BEV charging station infrastructure? Which factors will determine the extent of installation growth? How might governments’ financial pledges support these ambitious goals?
