Joe Beach is one of the founders of Starfire Energy and its Chief Executive Officer. He has a PhD in Applied Physics and was previously a founder of a thin film CdTe solar panel start-up. His experience in solar energy made him realize that wind and solar power needed an electrically produced fuel to continue their growth trajectory and move beyond the grid to mobility and heat applications. After looking at several alternatives, he settled on ammonia fuel as the best electrofuel option. He secured a Department of Energy grant to develop an ammonia production technology that is compatible with variable wind and solar power. That grant also led to Starfire Energy developing ammonia cracking technology. Starfire's scale-up is now being funded by global strategic investors.
