H.E. Aissatou Sophie GLADIMA, PhD., is holding the position of Minister of Petroleum and Energies of Senegal since 2020. Prior to that role she successfully held the positions of Ministry of Mines and Geology and Ministry of Telecommunications and Information technologies. Dr. GLADIMA has considerable experience in Earth sciences and public affairs. She has been a high-ranking member of the Senegalese administration for many years and lead several international organizations including the Geological Society of Africa and the African Association of Women Geoscientists. Dr. GLADIMA has also served as Managing Director of national agency of applied scientific research, presided the board of national institute of Pedology and had been coordinator at the international union for the conservation of nature. Dr. GLADIMA holds a PHD in Hydrogeology and a Master of sciences in Geology and Geophysics from Laval University in Canada. She also served as professor at the University of Dakar.

    African Gas: Monetization with more gas – and less

    Conventional gas projects are progressing apace across Africa, including megaprojects in Mozambique and Senegal/Mauritania and the developments of major finds in countries that include Cote d’Ivoire, Egypt, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa and Tanzania. Hydrogen projects are increasingly entering the investor spotlight. Africa also has the potential to generate carbon-offset credits from emissions reductions by protecting its forests. How large are the markets for these diverse ways of monetizing gas, what is driving them and where will the next opportunities be found?
