Grzegorz Markiewicz - Executive Director of the Oil and Gas Trading Department & Deputy Director of the Central Branch of PGNiG for Wholesale Trade. He graduated Economics and Law at the University of Szczecin and received an Executive Master of Business Administration (MBA) at the University of Manchester. Grzegorz Markiewicz has nearly 20 years of international experience in the oil and gas trading sector. He joined the PKN ORLEN Group in 2012, and in 2014 he was appointed Executive Director for Oil and Gas Trade, previously Director of the Gas Trade Office at PGNiG SA. Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Orlen Upstream sp. z o.o. and member of the Supervisory Board of Naftoport sp. z o.o.

    European Gas: Turmoil, resilience and lessons learned

    The year 2022 was a pivot point for European gas. A sharp reduction in Russian pipeline deliveries was compensated for by record levels of LNG and plummeting demand. Meanwhile government intervention returned in the from of price control and mandated stock builds. This plenary will discuss the lessons learned and the outlines for a new equilibrium. What are the longer-term perspectives for gas demand with less Russian imports, and how plausible are the plans to reduce gas use?
