Gianfranco Monzini is a seasoned energy professional, currently serving as the Global Head and VP of Electrification Consulting practice at Schneider Electric. In this role, he and his team are responsible for supporting industrial companies around the world in their efforts to achieve sustainability goals through the electrification of their processes and assets. Prior to this position, Gianfranco led the Power Systems Global Major Pursuit organization at Schneider Electric, with a special focus on major energy transition projects. Before joining Schneider Electric in 2020, Gianfranco spent 16 years at General Electric and Baker Hughes, holding various leadership positions in Italy, Norway, the United Kingdom, and France. He then relocated to Southeast Asia in 2015 where he served as the Executive Sales and Commercial Leader for the APAC region. Throughout his career, Gianfranco has gained experience in various market segments, particularly those with high energy intensity. Gianfranco holds a Master's Degree from Bocconi University in Milan, which he earned in 2004.

    The “Global South” countries in Africa, Latin America and South and Southeast Asia account for 58% of the world’s population but only 20% of electricity consumption. Three billion people use less electricity annually than a refrigerator in the United States! As these regions continue to drive global population growth, there will be new demands for energy and power, with ambitions to do so sustainably. What are the pathways, business models and public-private partnerships for electrifying the global south? How can governments and industry mobilize financing to meet the power needs of these burgeoning populations centers?
