The unsolved problem of the renewable renaissance is to fix transmission and load volatility at its endpoints, urban load centers. PolyJoule aims to solve this deliverability problem: use ultra-safe, sustainable, long-life, and low-cost batteries that can be deployed to urban load centers, en masse, anywhere, to defer transmission upgrades, eliminate the need for higher emission peaking generation, and provide decentralized distributed grid backup and support.
Batteries will play a key role in a low-carbon world, by allowing the electrification of transport, and supporting high levels of renewables. Investment in improving battery technology to accelerate this transition continues to be made. What will it take for a new technology to break into the mainstream? Which companies are driving investment, and what are their roles?
