Deborah Yedlin is currently the President and CEO of the Calgary Chamber of Commerce. She took on the role of stewarding the 130 year old organization in addition to her current responsibilities as the University of Calgary’s 14th Chancellor. Deborah came to her current position with a resume that includes working on Wall Street and Bay Street, and more than two decades writing on the nexus of business and politics for a wide array of news media outlets in Canada, with a focus on the energy sector.

    Canada is pursuing a novel Made in Canada approach to energy transition. This includes following multiple pathways—from large-scale deployment of carbon capture and storage (CCS) in the oil sands, to widespread electrification, fuel substitution, hydrogen, efficiency, and more. Its approach is sensitive to considering the diverse regional priorities and interests characteristic of Canada. As a major global energy producer and consumer, how does Canada balance stakeholder interests? How does Canada maintain its preeminent role in supplying global energy demand while meeting its leadership commitments to net zero emissions? What can be learned from Canada’s decarbonization journey?
