Downstream Strategies: Adapting to a shifting demand landscape

    Downstream/Midstream/Chemicals

The downstream sector must pursue two seemingly opposing objectives at the same time. Meet continued growth in product demand near term while positioning itself for demand uncertainty and a changing fuel mix—with far less emissions in the medium term. These objectives will transform the industry and present a once-in-a-generation opportunity for operators that can capitalize on today’s efficient operations while investing in a strategy for tomorrow’s market. Downstream/Midstream/Chemicals

Companies have embarked on the monumental task of decarbonizing downstream fuels and chemicals businesses. Multiple pathways and technologies provide potential options, but many require more effort to demonstrate commercial viability. Still, a great deal of activity is underway around the globe to retrofit or build new capacity that produces more sustainable products with a lower emissions footprint. Which technologies are ready for deployment today? How are these strategies progressing and how might the industry further innovate? Do the strategies adequately meet the needs of stakeholders
