A senior operations executive with a proven track record of successfully launching, managing and scaling clean energy companies and products, Claire Broido Johnson serves as Chief Operating Officer of Fermata Energy. As COO, Claire is focused on operations to scale the company, ensuring alignment between market opportunities and Fermata Energy's continued growth. She most recently served as the Managing Director of the University System of Maryland Momentum Fund (MMF), where she invested in 32 start-ups in less than 3 years. In 2009, she joined the Department of Energy, where she oversaw the deployment of $11 billion in Recovery Act funds to scale renewable energy and energy efficiency programs throughout the United States. In 2003, she co-founded SunEdison, which scaled the solar energy services market. At SunEdison, she sold the first Power Purchase Agreements to Staples and Whole Foods and raised the company’s first $60 MM in project financing. She currently serves on the boards of the National Sierra Club Foundation, Living Classrooms, Ally Energy, and Upsurge Baltimore.
