Maria Suárez has more than 20 years of experience in the public and private sectors. Before assuming as Minister of Mines and Energy, she held the Vice Presidency of Strategy and Finance of Ecopetrol, leading from that position an efficiency plan that positioned Ecopetrol as one of the most profitable and resilient Company in the Colombia Oil and Gas sector. Mrs. Suarez was Public Credit Manager at the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit in the Treasury Department, Chief Investment Officer at Porvenir (Pension Fund), and worked in high-level positions at Citibank, ABN AMRO, and Bank of America. Ms. Suarez has served on the board of directors for ISA, Isagen, Cenit, and Ocensa. She holds a degree in business administration from Colegio de Estudios Superiores de Administración and a master’s degree in policy management from Georgetown University.
