Minister of Energy

The Honorable Kanat Bozumbayev, Minister of Energy, Republic of Kazakhstan, started in this role in March 2016. From 2013 to 2016, he served as Mayor or Akim of the Pavlodar region and from 2009 to 2013, he was Mayor of the Zhambyl region. Mr. Bozumbayev was Chairman of the Board of the Kazakhstan Electricity Grid Operating Company, Joint-Stock Company (KEGOC, JSC) from October 2008 to November 2009. Before that, from August 2007 to October 2008, he was Chairman of the Board of Directors of “Samruk,” the Kazakhstan Holding for the Management of State Assets, Joint-Stock Company. Mr. Bozumbayev served as President of KEGOC, JSC from May 2001 to August 2007; earlier in 2001, he held the position of First Vice President of KEGOC, JSC. During 1998 to 2001, Mr. Bozumbayev was Director of the Department of Oil and Gas and Vice-Minister in the Ministry of Energy, Industry, and Trade of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Prior to that, from November 1997 to September 1998, he was Head of the Consolidated Financial Department and Vice President of Economic Affairs in the national oil transportation company, KazTransOil, CSJ. In 1997 Mr. Bozumbayev served as Head of the Department of Regional Policy in Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Economy and Trade. Earlier in his career, he worked for both government agencies and private companies. He received the title of Honored Power Engineering Specialist of the Commonwealth of Independent States. Mr. Bozumbayev holds a degree from the Kazakh State Management Academy.
