President, Centrica North America and Direct Energy Business

John Schultz, President, Direct Energy Business (DEB), is responsible for Direct Energy’s North American commercial, industrial, and wholesale customer business. Mr. Schultz joined DEB as Head of the East region in November 2013. Previously, he was Vice President of Sales and Operations for Hess Corporation’s energy marketing business. He has over 20 years of industry experience in a variety of roles, including sales, marketing, natural gas, electric supply and trading, mergers and acquisitions, and power plant development. Earlier in his career, he served as an Executive Committee Member of the Bayonne Energy Center, LLC, and the Newark Energy Center, LLC—two New Jersey–based power plants. Mr. Schultz began his career in Alexandria, Virginia, at the Eastern Group and subsequently worked for Statoil Energy, Inc., where he was responsible for their natural gas and electric supply operations. He holds a BS in agricultural economics from Penn State University and has attended executive development programs at the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University and Harvard Business School.
