Tom is involved in project consulting in all segments of agriculture and food, taking medium and long-term outlooks for global and regional environments and applying them to decision-making situations. A specialist in business strategy, agribusiness economic development and market analysis, Tom has expensive expertise in the agribusiness sectors of North America and other regions. Tom joined us in 1989, before which he worked for the Continental Grain Company in roles including management, trading, logistics and merchandising. He has a bachelor's degree from Cornell University and a master's degree in business administration from the Amos Tuck School of Business Administration at Dartmouth College.

    Along with fertilizer, crop protection chemicals, transportation, and packaging, biofuels are a major area of intersection between agriculture and energy. Over the past 15 years, biofuels production has increased globally and has become a major part of the energy profile of developed and developing countries. While energy security and farm income support were early pillars of biofuels policy, biofuels as a solution to developing renewable, sustainable, low-carbon sources of energy is a major theme in both commercial and policy organizations considering future biofuels development. What are the geographic differences in areas such as feedstocks and policy? How will technology play a role? What are the critical policy changes that could happen? What role will energy prices play?
