Chief Financial Officer

Paul Corcoran, Chief Financial Officer, Nord Stream 2 AG, has served in the post since 2016. Previously, he was the Finance Director of Nord Stream AG since the project’s inception in 2006, involved from its joint venture negotiation right through planning and construction to its successful operation. From 1988 through 2015, Mr. Corcoran worked within the BASF Group: in the UK with BASF PLC; in Germany as Controller at BASF AG, Ludwigshafen; in Belgium as Finance Director with BASF Antwerpen NV; and as Finance Director at the oil and gas subsidiary of BASF AG, Wintershall AG, Germany. Mr. Corcoran started out as a Civil Engineer then moved to finance and worked for five years with STC Telecommunications. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants. Mr. Corcoran holds a degree from Liverpool University.

    European Gas: Competition for markets

    There are significant areas of uncertainty for the European gas market in both the short and long-term. The long-awaited LNG push into Europe may be underway, and this would pose challenges for the commercial strategies of Gazprom and other pipeline suppliers. Trends for indigenous production are negative, with Dutch production being curtailed and offshore gas development in Romania delayed. Is there any prospect for unconventional gas to change the picture? In the longer term, existential questions remain regarding the future of gas in a low-carbon Europe. Can gas still have a major role despite EU mandates, or does the industry’s future rest on a gradual shift from methane to hydrogen?
