Founder and Chief Strategy Officer

Tod Hynes founded XL Fleet in 2009 and raised $70 million to create the leading fleet electrification company in the U.S. and Canada with the broadest and lowest cost hybrid and plug-in offering in the market.  XL’s investors include OGCI, Exelon and other strategic investors, and its customers include many Fortune 500 companies, utilities, and government agencies.  After leading the company as CEO for 10 years, Tod is now the Chief Strategy Officer and on the board of directors.  Tod is also on the board of the Woods Hole Research Center, and he is a Senior Lecturer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he has taught Energy Ventures since 2008. Previously, Tod was director of alternative energy at Citizens Energy where he launched the company’s wind development business. Prior to Citizens Energy, Tod founded a consulting and engineering company in distributed power generation.  Tod also co-founded the MIT Clean Energy Prize and co-chaired the Energy Committee of the Coalition for Environmentally Responsible Conventions (CERC), the organization that greened the 2004 U.S. presidential Democratic National Convention and Republican National Convention.
