John Lovell, Vice President, Strategy and Technology, MicroSilicon Inc., is a creative and dynamic developer of new oilfield products with a proven expertise in consistently penetrating new markets and driving sustainable revenue growth by inventing, developing, and selling tailored products for the industry. He left Schlumberger to take his current position at MicroSilicon Inc., a spin-off from Rice University that is transforming flow assurance through the use of real-time digital spectroscopy. At Schlumberger, Dr. Lovell was an early advocate for logging while drilling (LWD) and as Marketing Manager he led the development and business expansion of many key LWD products such as imaging while drilling and electromagnetic telemetry. After LWD, Dr. Lovell led the Research, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Operation Support of Coiled Tubing products where he oversaw the introduction of smart isolation packers and fiber-optic enabled coiled tubing. As a Product Line Manager of Completions, he managed Schlumberger’s permanent fiber-optic business and also spearheaded the subsea application of distributed electrical measurements with wireless power coupling. Dr. Lovell is a former Society of Petrophysicists and Well Log Analysts (SPWLA) Distinguished Lecturer and remains active in Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Committees. He has been granted over 30 patents. Dr. Lovell holds master’s degrees from Oxford and Cornell as well as a PhD from Delft University.
