Hussein Shel, Program Manager of Microsoft Azure Big Compute, Oil and Gas, has been working closely with high-performance computing clients around the globe, including Chevron, Exxon, Shell, Repsol, Schlumberger. Mr. Shel also helped grow the oil and gas vertical through direct customer engagement, independent software vendor recruiting and enablement, field training, and product feedback. Prior to joining the Azure Global Industry team and Azure Big Compute R&D, he served as Account Technology Strategist dedicated to the Royal Dutch Shell account. In this capacity, he led multiple efforts around big data and analytics across upstream, trading, and retail. Previously, Mr. Shel was Chevron’s Global Drilling & Completions (D&C) Enterprise Architect, where he led the development and management of D&C’s overall business, information, application, and technology architecture. He also developed D&C’s big data and analytics program—Data Lab—to develop and deploy D&C solutions leveraging machine learning. Earlier in his career, Mr. Shel led the development of Chevron’s North America Unconventional Assets Target Architecture and helped shape the end-to-end IT landscape for unconventionals across multiple business units in North America. Mr. Shel has also served as Program Manager for the Upstream Workflow Transformation program of the Chevron Mid-Continent Business Unit (MCBU), and he helped define and design the overall architecture and solutions for MCBU’s digital field business solutions as it relates to production and operations.
