Director, Project on International Oder - Foreign Policy

Dr. Jones directs the project on international order and strategy at the the Brookings Institution, where he focus on great power competition in the areas of grand strategy, naval competition, and international energy flows. He recently served a 5-year term as the Vice President of the Program. He is additionally affiliated with the Freeman Spogli Institute on International Affairs at Stanford University, and the Paul Tsai China Center at Yale University. He is active in track 1.5 and track 2 dialogues on U.S.-China relations, on AI application to military affairs, and on global climate change negotiations.

    In 2050, Africa will have the world’s largest number of young people, making up nearly twice the young population of South Asia and Southeast Asia, East Asia, and Oceania. Such shifting demographics will make sustainable development in Africa critical to global economic growth. How will we define security in a world where climate change may disrupt global manufacturing and supply chains? Will current trends toward bilateral trade agreements undermine the global trading system? How might bilateral trade confrontation spill into global, regional, and national stability and security?
