Ms Banerjee leads CII’s work in the areas of Economic Affairs, Finance, Public Policy, Regulatory Affairs, Corporate Governance, Legal Services, and Energy & Infrastructure. One of her key responsibilities is to build upon linkages between the federal, state and foreign governments to join the dots on India’s policy landscape.

Ms Banerjee, has also represented CII in many national and international forum representing Indian industry views like Make in India: Sweden, India @ Almedalen Future Urbanisms, Ministerial Delegations and CoPs in the last few years.

As part of the policy advocacy initiatives, Ms Banerjee has taken various policy level work, especially for energy and infrastructure. She has worked very closely with the Government in developing a renewable energy roadmap, putting forward recommendations on India’s move towards a gas based economy, new tariff policy in the power sector and on issues related to climate change.

Ms Banerjee’s work experience spans 28 years. Prior to CII, she served as National Economics Editor at India’s largest business daily, The Economic Times, for 22 years. She was a part of ET’s senior leadership strategy team, and played a crucial role in shaping its content and branding. Ms Banerjee holds a Master’s degree in International Relations.

    The global coal markets are at a crossroads in 2020. Regional differences have become huge, with solid growth in the Indian and Pacific basins, and falling demand in the Atlantic. Import demand growth is slowing from the strong levels of recent years, with new challenges mounting. What impact will the coronavirus, and other factors, have on China’s roles in the global market? Indian demand for both thermal and coking coal will continue to grow, but how quickly and how much? When will the global seaborne trade peak? Is the project pipeline enough to meet future demand needs? How likely are projects to be permitted and financed? Will there be a coal supply reaction to Australia’s bushfires?
