Samba Cor Bathily, Managing Director, Magik Energy Lab, is a “repat.” After 16 years in the United States working in the private sector (including as an Analyst at IBM and Operations Manager at AON), Mr. Bathily returned to Senegal and founded Magik Oil, a downstream oil & gas company, in 2016. In 2019, he expanded his activities and launched Magik Energy Lab, the first sustainable development incubator dedicated to the energy sector in Senegal. His mission is to link industry players, support entrepreneurs, and accelerate innovation. After several years in the oil & gas entrepreneurial landscape, Mr. Bathily is convinced that the challenge of bringing modern energy to everyone in Sub-Saharan Africa is unique and requires substantial investments as well as a strong commitment from its youth to make the energy sector more effective and efficient. He also believes that the introduction/inclusion of innovation will benefit local communities and accelerate growth in Africa, and that it's imperative to create a new socio-economic model adapted to the local context. Mr. Bathily holds an MBA from the University of Georgia in the United States.
