Eric Ernst

Formula E

Head of Technology

Eric joined Formula E in March of 2018 as Head of Technology in mid-term of season four. As a new edition to the team, Eric is responsible for all technology used within the championship which requires his vision and involvement across almost every department within Formula E. Alongside the Formula E management team, he oversees the development of the Championships technology function in delivering the strategy used in current and future races from digital platforms, event delivery down to systems used for race management and eSports. Before joining Formula E, Eric has spent 12 years in the world of Grand Prix sailing. As IT Manager Victory Challenge in the 32nd America’s Cup and Shore Manager for Energy Team France in the 34th Americas Cup, he understands being part of a high level competing team and the challenges that come along with it. The America’s Cup is the oldest still fought for sports cup in the world and drives the evolution of sailing and event technology. Over the last 5 years Eric served as the Technology Stopover Manager for the organizing body of the Volvo Ocean Race. As the longest non-stop sporting event, Eric lead a team delivering world-class technology to spectators, guests and B2B customers visiting one of the 11 stopovers during the nine-month race period. The logistical and technological challenges within the Volvo Ocean Race are extreme; Eric was part of a team that developed a strategy and delivered this world-class race into every viewer's living room from anywhere in the world. Born and raised in Zurich Switzerland, Eric pursued his passion for technology in Switzerland working as a CISSP security expert for 10 years for the Swiss financial and defence sector before he made his switch for events and sailing. Next to sailing and race cars, Eric offers his event (networking) technology knowledge to different smaller NGOs that deploy and build disaster relief networks in crises areas that are used to coordinate relief efforts and give victims communication channels when public infrastructure is unavailable.
