Nicholas Cron, Vice President of Portfolio Optimization and Marketing, joined Xcoal in October 2011.  Nick has spent his tenure at Xcoal focusing on sales and marketing of Xcoal’s products. In his current role, Nick works closely with the various Xcoal offices and marketing team to allocate Xcoal’s metallurgical and thermal coal products to the global market. Nick holds an undergraduate degree from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA.

    The global coal markets are at a crossroads in 2020. Regional differences have become huge, with solid growth in the Indian and Pacific basins, and falling demand in the Atlantic. Import demand growth is slowing from the strong levels of recent years, with new challenges mounting. What impact will the coronavirus, and other factors, have on China’s roles in the global market? Indian demand for both thermal and coking coal will continue to grow, but how quickly and how much? When will the global seaborne trade peak? Is the project pipeline enough to meet future demand needs? How likely are projects to be permitted and financed? Will there be a coal supply reaction to Australia’s bushfires?
