Scott Burger

Scott Burger is a doctoral candidate in the Institute for Data, Systems, and Society at MIT. Mr. Burger is also a research associate and fellow with the MIT Energy Initiative. His research at MIT explores the economics of 21st century power systems to improve power system regulation and investment. Specifically, Mr. Burger focuses on rate design and the economics of distributed energy resources. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed papers and was a lead author on MIT’s Utility of the Future Study. Previously, he served as the Director of Operations for PRIME Coalition, a nonprofit organization that partners with philanthropists to invest in companies seeking solutions to climate change. He led PRIME’s technology diligence and investment operations, and developed PRIME’s impact assessment framework. Before joining PRIME, Mr. Burger served as the Managing Director of the MIT Clean Energy Prize. Earlier in his career, he was the Director of Engineering for Circular Energy, a progressive energy company, and an analyst with GTM Research. Mr. Burger holds a BS degree in chemical engineering from Washington University in St. Louis and a Master of Science degree in technology and policy from MIT. IHS Markit named him a future energy leader. Mr. Burger’s work has been cited in publications ranging from The Boston Globe to Bloomberg and The New York Times.
