Ted Halstead is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Climate Leadership Council, the broadest climate coalition in US history, founded in collaboration with a Who’s Who of business, opinion, and environmental leaders. He previously founded two other influential think tanks: New America, and more recently, Americans For Carbon Dividends, an advocacy organization. A frequent public speaker and media commentator, Mr. Halstead has appeared as a guest on CNN, CNBC, Bloomberg, Nightline, ABC’s World News Tonight, C-SPAN, and PBS. He gave a TED Talk in 2017 entitled “A Climate Solution Where All Sides Can Win” that has over 1.5 million views and has been translated into 20 languages. Mr. Halstead has published numerous articles and two books, including The Radical Center: The Future of American Politics (co-authored with Michael Lind). His articles have appeared in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, Financial Times, Fortune, The Atlantic, National Review, and Harvard Business Review. He was selected as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum. Mr. Halstead holds a degree from Dartmouth College and a master’s degree from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, where he was a Montgomery Fellow.

Different companies are taking different approaches as they balance corporate portfolios: How much investment should go into clean energy? What are investors demanding? Is there a diversification strategy? How will they balance growth, financial returns, and company cultures? This session will discuss what lower carbon energy investments are being made, vertical diversification strategies, and short-term versus long-term value creation.
