Dr. Brian Baynes is an entrepreneur, inventor, and investor. He is co-founder and CEO of Verdox, an MIT spin-out developing a powerful new technology for reversal of climate change. He co-founded Petri.bio (Boston-based venture accelerator at the intersection of biology and engineering), Midori Health (novel fiber feeds for animal nutrition and health), Celexion (protein engineering and synthetic biology for biopharma and industrial applications; sold to Agenus (NASDAQ:AGEN)), Codon Devices (applied synthetic biology; sold to Gen9/Ginkgo Bioworks), and Kaleido Biosciences (a chemistry-driven approach to therapeutic microbiome control; NASDAQ:KLDO). Dr. Baynes is a Venture Partner with Flagship Pioneering, where he has served as an executive in early-stage ventures, on the funds’ investment committees, and on the boards of sustainability companies Red Rock Biofuels, Joule, Mascoma, Enchi, and Be Power. Previously he was an engineer at ExxonMobil and a Director in the MIT School of Chemical Engineering Practice at Mitsubishi Chemicals and General Mills. He holds a BChE from the University of Delaware and a PhD in chemical engineering from MIT.
