Mauricio Gutierrez is President and Chief Executive Officer of NRG Energy, Inc., America’s premier customer-driven, integrated power company. He joined NRG in 2004 and helped build the organization from a regional power generation business into a national, Fortune 500 diversified energy company. Prior to being named Chief Executive Officer in December 2015, Mr. Gutierrez served as Chief Operating Officer, overseeing power plant operations, commodities trading, business to business (B2B) retail sales, engineering, construction, and project development. Previously, he led all commercial operations including trading, structuring, and wholesale sales. Mr. Gutierrez began his career as a Senior Consultant at Mexico City-based DTP Consultores, working on various energy and infrastructure projects in Mexico. When the US merchant energy industry started to emerge, he joined Dynegy's management program and held various positions in its commercial and trading organization. Mr. Gutierrez is a Member of the Business Roundtable and serves on the Boards of NRG Energy, Electric Power Supply Association (EPSA), Chief Executives for Corporate Purpose (CECP), and Drexel University. Mr. Gutierrez holds a bachelor's degree from the Universidad Panamericana and two master's degrees—one from the Colorado School of Mines and one from the French Institute of Petroleum.
