The electrification of transport, particularly cars and trucks, is a high-profile element of aspirations to reach net-zero GHG emissions. Plans by automakers and recent sales trends point toward a potential massive and relatively rapid change in new sales from oil powered to electric vehicles and other zero- or low-emission vehicles. Regulatory support and capital spending underpin the changes underway. However, the transport world today is still dominated by oil products. There are hurdles to overcome in order to accelerate the transition to net zero in transportation. These include the need for sky-high growth in the supply of battery raw materials; consumer acceptance; and expansion of charging stations, either at home or on the road.
