Tuesday, March 10

11:30 am - 12:00 pm

Universities design buildings with a 100-year lifespan in mind, and therefore attempt to anticipate operational costs such as decarbonized energy, direct or indirect carbon costs, costs of resilience, and other climate-induced costs that might materialize over a building’s lifespan. For this reason, forward-thinking research universities’ capital planning and design decisions attempt to forecast climate, energy, water, carbon, and resiliency costs and impacts that may accelerate within the next few decades. Design changes are taking surprising U-turns from design concepts revered as best practices!
