Siemens Energy | Getting Renewables onto the Grid: How HVDC can Accelerate Their Incorporation

High-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission systems are becoming more and more important in an energy landscape that is characterized by increasing digitalization, decarbonization, and distributed generation. HVDC technology offers the most efficient means of transmitting large amount of power over long distances, help connect green power to the grid, and to stabilize three-phase-grids. During this co-led lyceum, the speakers will review a project identified by the federal government as a national priority to permit and complete. This session will cover long distance high voltage DC transmission that will connect wind energy to renewable markets, increasing the resilience and reliability of the entire power grid. Projects like these are important new infrastructure to help drive transformation in the energy sector. They also represent using HVDC technology to deliver onshore wind power and will significantly advance the nation’s net-zero goals.
